Rad Dad Father’s Day Desk Trophy

Did you know that you can cut foam sheets with a cookie cutter?!  It’s true!  Today I’m going to use that technique in making this fun Rad Dad Desk Trophy, perfect for an awesome work display and Father’s Day Gift (which is this Sunday…just in case you forgot!).

Supplies needed to created this project:

  • FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam: 1/2″ Thick Sheet, Block
  • Cookie Cutter Letters
  • FloraCraft® Smooth Finish
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Wooden Dowel
  • Low-Temp Glue Gun & Glue
  • Sandpaper

Instructions:

Firmly press the cookie cutters letters into the 1/2″ thick foam sheet to spell “RAD DAD”.

Tip:  It helps to leave the cookie cutters into the foam and break away the excess.  From the backside of the cookie cutter, break away any excess foam.  Using sandpaper or a scrap piece of foam, smooth edges as desired.

Coat your cut out letters in Smooth Finish and let dry (in true crafter style, I used my fingers).  Sand any rough spots with fine-grit sandpaper.

Paint letters desired color and let dry.

Using low-temp glue, attach the letters to each other as shown below.

Insert a wooden dowel into the bottom to form the trophy – then push it into a painted foam block for the base.  That’s it!!

Possibilities are endless with the cookie cutter technique!  I’d love to hear your ideas of what you plan on making!
