DIY Cactus Décor
I have seen cactus (or is it Cacti?) everywhere as part of people’s decor. But since I kill every plant I have ever been put in charge of (poor aloe plants), I wanted to create the fun look of cactus…but with NO watering or any maintenance to speak off! So I turned to some FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam sheets and whipped up some of my own DIY cactus décor!
Supplies needed to make this project:
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam: 1 x 12 x 36″ sheet
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam: 2 x 12 x 36″ sheet
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Cutter
- FloraCraft® Smooth finish
- Thin Wood Skewer or Dowel
- Terracotta Flower Pot
- Paint
- Toothpicks
- Rock Vase Filler
- Tissue Paper Flower
- White Vinyl
- Scissors
Instructions:
I wanted to make each cactus a different thickness…but you can totally use whatever thickness you want! I took a marker and sketched a basic cactus design right on the foam sheet. Using my foam cutter, I cut it out!
I then added some smooth finish to cover the cactus.
Smooth finish does just that…it fills in all the crevices and makes it a smooth surface to paint! You can sand it completely smooth or leave a little texture like I did.
I added some paint — light green to the small cactus and dark to the big cactus. Then added little highlights and lowlights with the alternate color. It just gives it a little depth!
I then used my scrap pieces of foam from the cactus to fill it the bottom of the pot!
I added a trimmed wood skewer to the middle of the cactus and pushed it down in the pot. Then I added some rocks to cover the foam in the pot.
I decided that the cactus needed some pokeys on it…so I added some toothpicks that I snipped in half. Then, to finish the big one off, I added a tissue paper cactus flower and little vinyl triangles to the pot!
I totally love how they turned out (if I do say so myself!)!
They currently sit in my new laundry room to add a little funk and color!
These are super cute! I love the little tooth picks sticking out of the smaller one!
Good job! I just learned about a new craft product reading this
