Hurricane Vase Succulent Arrangement

Hurricane Vase Succulent Arrangement

So a few months ago I bought some really cute hurricane vases on pretty wood stands.  I just love them and think they are so chic however I had no clue what to put in them!  Typically I see candles or some sort of decorative balls in hurricane vases, and while those can look lovely, I didn’t want them in mine.  I wanted something different, something more modern, something fun.  Then…light bulb…succulents!

Supplies needed to make this project:

  • FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam: 2.5″ x 3″ Egg
  • FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam: 4″ x 1″ Disc
  • FloraCraft® Succulents or Air Picks
  • Hurricane Vase
  • Green Craft Paint
  • Foam Brush
  • Low-Temp Glue Gun & Glue
  • Wire Cutters

Instructions:

This project is really fun and simple to recreate, but the size of your foam should depend on the size of your hurricane vase.  So grab larger or smaller pieces of foam depending on what fits best!

You will begin by painting both your egg and disc shapes using green craft paint and a foam brush.

paint

Once the paint is dry you will attach the foam egg to your foam disc using low-temp glue.  You can add a toothpick in between the shapes for added stability if you’d like.  This gives you a fun shaped base to put your succulents into.  You could also use a cone or a half ball, or many other foam shapes!  But I like these because it allows you to use both larger and smaller succulent picks while keeping the overall size of the arrangement consistent.

foam

After your foam base is assembled you can place your succulent or air plant picks into the foam.  It is easier if you trim off a bit of the stem using wire cutters and use a little glue to keep them in place.

add succulents

Add a variety of plants and cover the entire piece of foam.  You can make this as full or as sparse as you like, but be sure you don’t make it too big for your vase.

After your arrangement is complete, you can place it in your hurricane vase and enjoy it!

*Tip: if you are going to place your vase against a wall like I did, you don’t need to put any succulents on the back side of the arrangement!  This will save you time and money and no one will even notice!

What a fun way to decorate your home!
