Wicked Witch Figurine

wicked-01

During our summer vacation we went to Salem, Massachusetts to linger around, take the tours and escape the heat. The history of this quaint town is so enthralling and, as always, I found a lot of inspiration for crafts in this unique location.

Looking through the gift shops I found myself drawn to beautiful doll-like witch figurines. When I got home I couldn’t stop thinking about them, so I decided to recreate a similar version using a foam cone! Isn’t she fabulous?  Let me show how I made this elegant witch so you can have her for your own magical decor this season.

Supplies needed to make this project:

  • FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Cone: 18″ x 4″
  • Halloween Ruffled Fabric: 1/2 yard
  • Halloween Creepy Fabric: 1/4 yard
  • Black Tulle: 6 inch wide x 1 yard
  • Black Feather Boa
  • Halloween Felt Witch Hat with 6″ Brim
  • Decorative Acorn
  • False Eyelashes
  • Acrylic Paint: Lime Green
  • Low-Temp Glue Gun &  Glue
  • Pearl-Head Pins
  • Rotary Cutter & Mat
  • 14″ thin Branch
  • Raffia
  • Black Craft Wire
  • Wood Floral Picks

Instructions:

Dress:  Turn the fabric ruffle side down and smooth it out so the ruffles lay down correctly. Roll the foam cone over the fabric. Trim the fabric with a rotary cutter to fit cone.

Pin the fabric to the cone using pearl-head pins.

wicked-03

Glue the fabric together in a single even seam down the cone. Match the ruffles on each side as you glue. Once the glue is dry, remove the pins.

Cut the creepy fabric to 17-1/4 inch x 9-1/2 inch. Drape the fabric from the top of the foam and fold the top corners back to make a cape.

wicked-05

Glue the creepy fabric to the ruffle fabric on the cone at the top and just inside the front collar.

Face:  Remove the wire from the floral pick and insert the square end into the bottom of the acorn.  Glue the pick in place.

wicked-07

Paint the acorn bottom with the lime green acrylic paint. Let it dry. Add the false eyelashes to the acorn with glue.

wicked-08

Trim off a 4-5 inch section of the feather boa. Insert the pick with the acorn into the center of the boa.

Cut a hole in the top of the cone and fabric, then insert the head pick.

Hat:  Drape the yard of tulle over the front of the hat leaving it flowing down the back of the hat. Secure it with a dot of glue on left side. Add three feathers from the boa to the hat with glue. Add glue to the inside rim of the hat and fit over the top of the acorn.

Broom:  Cut the raffia into 22 inch strips. Fold the raffia in half and insert the end of the branch to the center of the folded loops.

wicked-12

Wrap black wire tightly around the raffia to secure it to the stick.

wicked-13

Trim the broom ends if they are too long.  Display the broom with the witch in your home.

This witch figure will be the perfect addition to your Halloween decor…and if you’re a fan of the Broadway Show Wicked, she could stay up all year long!
