Easy DIY Cloud Shelf

I ran across the cutest cloud shelf on Etsy the other day which inspired me to make my own. It was made entirely out of wood which was way too heavy so I came up with this easier option made from foam!  And foam just naturally looks like clouds so it was a win win!

Supplies needed to make this project:

  • FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam: Sheet 1/2″ x 12″ x 36″ (or whatever size you choose)
  • FloraCraft® Foam Cutter
  • Ikea spice shelf
  • Low-Temp Glue Gun & Glue

These Ikea spice shelves are really cheap and so versatile!

Instructions:

Lay the foam sheet on the back of the shelf to measure the width.  Cut off the excess width with a foam cutter.

The foam should fit snug inside as shown below.

Next, cut a cloud shape along the top of the foam sheet, making sure to keep the bottom the same width as the shelf.  You can freehand this as clouds are not perfectly uniform.

Glue the bottom of the cloud to the back of the shelf and then you’re ready to hang it up!

My original idea was to wrap them in batting and fabric…but then I actually liked the way the foam looked just like this!  You could have a lot of fun with this basic idea! Wrap in fun fabric, cut out little rain drops to hang from the cloud or make a mobile for above a crib! The possibilities are endless!
